Harvesting “sewage veg” and making it into chutney

Following a startling discovery by CURB’s Ben Morris, Jim Waterson of London Centric found ‘sewage veg’ in the River Brent. He then took it to a chef who made it into a chutney!

There is a serious point to this though. The tomatoes and other vegetables would not be growing alongside the river unless sewage was being discharged directly into the river. Their presence is a symptom of wrongly connected pipes.

For more on that story, see Ben’s recent BBC interview and our investigation in partnership with London Centric from last year.
